In April 2002, the German government published its first national strategy for sustainable development. The strategy and the individual measures are being continuously developed. To this end, the German government publishes regular progress reports (every four years). Since 2015, the 2030 Agenda with its 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has formed the basis of the German government’s sustainability policy. Building on this, the Federal Cabinet adopted the German Sustainable Development Strategy: Update 2016 on January 11, 2017, and the German Sustainable Development Strategy: Update 2021 on March 10, 2021.
